The unofficial but sincere
Maria Bamford Fan Site Newsletter
Issue #2 / April 2003
Hello Bamford Fans!
=====================================================
What a month! In only the first two months of this website, several
hundred visitors dropped by. A few of you actually subscribed to
this newsletter.
And several voted for a Maria Bamford Fan Chat Board
I received emails from both Maria's mother and father thanking
me for setting up the fan website. Maria's dad even sent a picture
of himself
in the arms of his mother back in the early 1940s. Made me feel rather
warm and fuzzy. No, wait... I forgot to shave again.
Seriously, Maria is one fortunate woman to have such loving and
supportive parents. I tip my hat to you both. Well, OK, I don't wear
a hat,
but if I did... :-)

Here are some of the comments:
-----------------------------------
I first discovered Maria when I was watching Comedy
Central. I happened to catch her half hour special,
and it was the first time I remember laughing at
pretty much all of the material. I also especially
admired the fact that Maria could be funny and
insightful without swearing or being crude. Her humor
makes you think, and if you listen carefully at her
jokes, you will understand a little bit more of how
Maria actually thinks, and what her opinions are
about.
For instance, when she talks about the hardships of
having a lady boss, you get a sense that while she's
making a joke, she actually knows what it is truly
like to suffer the hardships of having a lady boss. I
guess she talks about what she knows, but that makes
her humor unique and accessible, because in a sense
she is talking about herself.
I also love Maria's different voices that
she does.
And the fact that she is very nice. I met her when
she came to Seattle, and she was always willing to
talk to every person that came up to her after the
show. I even got to pose for a picture with her!
She's very real, friendly, and of course, funny.

She makes me laugh so hard
I have to check my chest to make sure I'm not having a seizure. I
have cancer and
Maria makes me laugh
so hard
it hurts. Better that than the cancer. More specifically
I have glioblastoma -- a cancerous brain tumor.
I'm a long term
survivor,
which is fantastic.
I was surprised that someone
had such excellent timing, allowing for the "slow burn" It's
almost as if she's acting, not even aware that her character is hilarious.
Secretly we all know she's in total
control, which made me respect her even more,
even if I have to use up a whole box of tissues from the tears of
laughter.
Hey! There's a promotional item for her mgr. to
send out to local newspapers -- little packets
of Kleenex
with a
sticker attached,
announcing upcoming
tour dates. She cheats a little. She sends
out mental "smart bombs" which
go off at a predetermined time (known only
by her).
I intend to live long enough to hear the "husband leaving
the toilet seat up jokes" and eventually the baby jokes... all
with her wry sardonic sly asides. She's only just begun!
